Chapter VII : Travel
“During my nearly 50 years as a winegrower I’ve been fortunate enough not to have been limited to the vision of a few hectares of vines and drinking only my own wines. Luckily for me, the modest experience of my career as a winegrower has been complemented by a great deal of travelling at home and abroad.” As the chairman of the Syndicat des Vins de Bandol and a member of both the INAO and the OIV, Lucien, accompanied by his wife, took part in numerous conferences in at least 20 countries, including the US, Canada, Chile, Mexico, South Africa, Japan, the former USSR, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Austria, Germany and Italy. As the auditor of the OIV’s Oenology Commission, Lucien was passionate about scientific research into the composition of wine. His trips to meet top scientists backed up his philosophy and confirmed his objective of producing natural wine. Lucien also had the opportunity to taste some very rare wines during his travels, including Tokay from Hungary, the fine wines of the Rhine Valley, white wines from Georgia and Californian Zinfandel.
